This skill sets provides the skills and knowledge required for those responsible for developing Traffic Management Plans (TMP) and Traffic Guidance Scheme (TGS) on Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.

Course Duration

Delivered over 3 days, Face-to-Face

Only once training has been completed learners are required to complete Practical experience requirements and traffic management plan design (TMD) submissions.

Course Content

  • Plan and prepare for implementing the risk management process
  • Identify workplace hazards and assess
  • Assess workplace risks and identify unacceptable risk levels
  • Identify potential actions and develop risk controls
  • Implement and evaluate risk control
  • Audit the risk management process and complete records
  • Establish context for traffic management plan and traffic guidance scheme
  • Prepare traffic management plans and traffic guidance scheme
  • Support and review traffic management plan implementation

Course Outcome

The Β skill set provides the Licensing, legislative and certification requirements for individuals responsible for developing traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes for Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 roads.

On successful completion of all course requirements and assessments, learners will be issued with:

  • Statement of Attainment
  • Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) is responsible for issuing TTM ID cards on completion.

The units of competency comprise both theoretical and practical components.

  • Practical experience requirements must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 roads within at least six months of successfully completing the theoretical component
  • Submission of at least 2 different traffic management plan design types applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace is require.
  • Commencement of traffic management plan design (TMD) submission 1 will commence in face to face training.

All learners must be 16 years or older and will be required to provide photographic identification upon arriving for their course.

This skill set may only be undertaken in addition to:

  • Completion of any of the following skill sets:
    • RIISSS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads
    • RIISSS00061 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for High Volume Roads
    • RIISSS00062 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Motorways and Freeways
  • At least 12 months experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace; and
  • Providing evidence of relevant experience setting up at least 20 temporary traffic management types in at least four of the following design types:
    • Pedestrian and cyclist controls
    • Construction sites
    • Lane closures
    • Shoulder closures
    • Night works
    • Use of portable traffic control devices
    • Motorways or freeways; or
  • At least an AQF Level 6 qualification in a civil construction, traffic engineering, or road design related field;

or

  • Entry requirements specifically detailed in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management

 

  • Ability to read, write, and speak basic English.
  • Learners are required to be reaccredited every 3 years.

 

Learner Requirements

  • Have a valid Photo ID (i.e. Australian Driver’s Licence, Passport, or Proof of Age Card). This is mandatory for accredited courses.
  • Must have a valid USI to be issued the Statement of Attainment. All information regarding the USI is found at www.usi.gov.au

 

Personal Protective Equipment

  • Enclosed safety footwear, long pants, and long-sleeved shirts with hi-vis are preferred but not required for face to face training.
  • Other sites may have other requirements which will be confirmed at the time of booking.

Full Course Fee:$2350.00

$1480.00 to be paid at registration (pre course fee) $870.00 paid at completion before final assessment
