Traffic Management Implementer 2 (TMI2)

This skill sets provides the skills and knowledge required for those responsible for the skills and knowledge required to implement vehicle and pedestrian traffic using portable traffic control devices, stop-slow bats, hand signals and approved communication devices on high volume roads and signalised intersections on Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 environments (High Volume Roads) as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.

Course Duration

Delivered over 2 days, with additional requirements post face to face delivery, only once 2 day training has been completed learners are required to complete additional practical observations.

Course Content

  • Implement work procedures to commence controlling traffic and all other road users when signals have been switched off and back on. Communicate regularly with client, personnel, and other relevant parties.
  • Prepare to implement traffic management plan. Set out and monitor traffic guidance scheme. Monitor and coordinate work program.
  • Diagnose and solve routine problems.
  • Close down work activities and maintain operating records.

Course Outcome

On successful completion of the all course requirements and assessments, Learners will be issued with:

  • Statement of Attainment issued by Workzone Training.
  • Department of infrastructure and Transport (DIT) is responsible for issuing TTM ID cards on completion.

The units of competency comprise both theoretical and practical components.

TMI2

  • A practical observation assessment must be undertaken after the practical experience is gained. Practical experience requirements of implementing traffic management plans must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 roads within at least six months of completing the theoretical component. This can be completed on site or at Workzone Training’s for an additional fee of $95 per participant.
  • Learners will be assessed on the implementation of 3 different traffic management setups.

South Australia

All learners must be 16 years or older and will be required to provide photographic identification upon arriving for their course.

  • Completion of the RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads; and
  • At least one month experience applying skills and knowledge relevant to the above-mentioned skill set in a temporary traffic management workplace; and
  • Providing evidence of relevant experience setting up at least 12 temporary traffic management types including high speed roads or high-volume roads, and at least two of the following types:
    • pedestrian and cyclist controls
    • construction sites
    • lane closures
    • shoulder closures
    • night works
    • use of portable traffic control
    • devices motorways or freeways

Learner Requirements

  • Have a valid Photo ID (i.e. Australian Driver’s Licence, Passport, or Proof of Age Card). This is mandatory for accredited courses.
  • Must have a valid USI to be issued the Statement of Attainment. All information regarding the USI is found at www.usi.gov.au

Personal Protective Equipment

  • Enclosed safety footwear, long pants, and long-sleeved shirts with hi-vis are required.
  • Other sites may have other requirements which will be confirmed at the time of booking.
  • Failure to wear the correct PPE may prevent the participant from completing the practical training and/or assessment.
